Description
By the British-bred Yarlands Summersong, himself an Olympian with Pascale Duroy, Summersong has spent the last five years in the world top ten ranking for eventing sires, along with HIS father Fleetwater Opposition – also the father of Opposition Buzz.
The mother of Leprince has also had one other four-star offspring, and she is by a son of the great Olympian Galoubet A – the sire of Olympic Champion and triple World Cup Champion Baloubet du Rouet. Leprince carries 65% thoroughbred blood, more than enough for modern eventing breeding. In terms of conformation, Leprince is very blood type, with an expressive head. His movement is outstanding in the sport, with Leprince regularly finishing first or second after the dressage at Burghley, Badminton and Pau, with Carl Hester stating that Leprince was “stunning” while in first place after the dressage at Badminton in 2013, high praise indeed. Leprince is built uphill, with a very active hind leg and strong quarters. He is an improver for any mare.
His temperament is superb, and to prove this earlier this year he took a sixteen-year-old girl to the German junior championships and won.
Performance and Results:
His performances make him the best living stallion in eventing, with eight (8) four-star events under his belt. He finished 2011 as the number 3 eventing horse in the world, and the highest ranked Stallion. Leprince finished 4th at Pau, 7th at Burghley and 11th at Badminton. In fact Leprince is ready and fit to run at Burghley this year, but since The Stallion Company has just bought him, they decided to retire him from sport to concentrate on his breeding career.
Leprince retires to stud today – sound and with five-star xrays. The semen, both frozen and fresh is superb quality. We recommend him to breeders with mares who need refinement and elegance, but also those who lack scope and movement. He’s short coupled and compact, therefore mares who are rectangular will go well with him.
