Borsalino was the crowd favorite and undisputed winner of the 2014 Westphalian main licensing in Munster. Borsalino, is a strong, quiet, exciting type, with excellent athleticism and body mechanics.
He is a large stallion with a good foundation and outstanding basic gaits coming from strong hindquarters with a great deal of elasticity and always in rhythm. He shows great quality of movement, with strong topline and self carriage.
Borsalino’s sire, Boston, was Champion stallion in England and finished a very good 30-day performance test in Neustadt-Dosse. Boston’s sire, Jazz, has led the world ranking of dressage horses for many years and was KWPN Stallion of the Year in 2011. He won many international Grand Prix tests. His most successful dressage offspring is Jerich Parzival, who has ruled international dressage with his rider Adelinde Cornelissen for years.
Borsalino’s Grandsire Cocktail won countless Grand Prix competitions with rider Anky van Grundsven.
Borsalino’s dam line received many important premiums and produced numerous sports horses. His dam’s sire, Fidermark, was victorious in Grand Prix tests and promoted the line of Florestan internationally. The Grand dam produced Rostropowitsch, who was successful at Grand Prix tests with rider Christoph Koschel. Through Coriograf B and Landadel, this elite dam line carries the excellent Holstein blood that has been positively influencing the Holstein and Oldenburg breeding for years.
Especially noteworthy is outstanding Furioso II, who formed the modern sport horse in many ways, and who is represented in Borsalino’s blood three times.
2016 news:Superb first foal season of Borsalino
The foal auction also started with a bang. The winner of the Welsh-born Borsalino won the auction with two foals at the top: on the one hand catalog no. 25, Bitter Lemon sold to Denmark for 70,000 euros. On the other hand the Borsalino-De Niro-Caprimond son Backstage (cat. No. 38) goes to a stallion breeder in Lower Saxony for 120,000 euros. Backstage is the son of the mare Wega Weissera from De Niro and has on his mother’s side the elite stallion Caprimond as grandfather, thus three generations Klosterhof blood and the living proof for the studying philosophy “Breeding is thinking in generations”. Overall the 10 Borsalino foals achieved the outstanding average price of 29,200 euros.
